Recent Trends and Future Perspectives in High-Altitude Research

 PVRI Hight Altitude task force invite you a Brainstorming session on “Recent Trends and Future Perspectives in High-Altitude Research”, at SNM Hospital, Leh, Ladakh from September 4-5, 2009. The basic objective of this symposium is to discuss recent trends of integrating all branches of research on high-altitude and bring them to a common global platform for long term future perspectives.  Dr. Qadar Pasha the co-leader ofVRI Hight Altitude task force likes to invite the PVRI fellows  (with family) to participate in this event.  For the announcement details click here

New PVRI Task forces

Three new task forces have been established in the first half of 2009, as recommended during the Annual General meeting in Mexico.

  1. Pulmonary Venous Hypertension Task Force.  Task force Leaders: Evelyn Horn and Stefano Ghio
  2. Pulmonary Vascular Diseases: Haemolytic Anaemia Task Force Leaders: Kamal Mubarak, and Roberto Machado
  3. Pulmonary Hypertension in Connective Tissue Diseases taskforces: Leaders: Francisco J. Soto and Virginia Steen

First Dedicated Pulmonary Hypertension Symposium in India

The PAH symposium was held on November 7th, 2008 orgnized by the PVRI India Taskforce. This symposium was preconference proceedings the PCSI 2008 . According to our knowledge, a day long conference dedicated to pulmonary hypertension of either national or international scale has not been held in India before. Read More

Dr Ahvie Herskowitz Joint the PVRI International Advisory Board

Ahvie Herskowitz Ahvie Herskowitz, MD Co-Founder, Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President Partnerships,  provides senior executive leadership to the Institute for OneWorld Health .    He has extensive experience performing large-scale multinational phase II and III clinical trials. Prior to co founding IOWH Ahvie spent four years at the Ischemia Research & Education Foundation where he held the position of Director and Vice President responsible for all clinical research activities including performing design and analysis of all phases of multicenter trials for pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients, as well as all epidemiologic and outcome studies and registries.

The Second 2008 – PVRI Open lecture on PAH in congenital heart disease  was held on  November 19, 2008, 5:00PM (GMT). This web based video-conference will be based on case presentation and discussion. The three cases to be presented and discussed are from the Heart Institute, São Paulo, Brazil. New Book on Pulmnary Hypertenion by the PVRI the Indian Subcontinent Taskforce Fellows

PHT India Book A brief monograph on PAH, authored by PVRI Fellows and others of the Indian subcontinent was brought out by Elsevier Inc.  This was released on November 7th as part of the inauguration proceedings for the PCSI 2008. This book was published as volume 1, issue 6 of the Elsevier Clinical Advisory Board (ECAB) India Clinical Update series in Cardiology with a CME credit of 7 hours.

To reflect the PVRI activities and to fulfill our educational commitments the “PVRI Review” will be published quarterly as from January 2009 online (open access) and also in hard print. It will not be a venue for original articles but will be a newsletter, include educational reviews and will serve as an avenue to connect the North and the South (developed and developing world).  It will be published in English but there will be simultaneous issues, both in print and available online in other languages such as Portuguese, Spanish and Arabic.
